About Us

Starkey Architects

Since graduating in 2000, the Principal, Jerome Starkey, has performed his skill set in a number of practices, from Cape Town to London to Knysna (as a partner in a highly successful design partnership for nearly 15 years in Starkey Olivier Architects) and recently in the last 5 years in his own boutique practice with offices now in both Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.

Starkey Architects, is a venture that combines the experience of those practices with an excellent reputation in the Western Cape and beyond. The practice is conveniently situated in the heart of the Knysna CBD and boasts a wonderful studio space that both inspires and uplifts. Architectural commissions have historically been largely in the Knysna and Plettenberg Bay area, however work has been successfully completed in George, East London, Cape Town, Durban and Gauteng. This national footprint is in line with ever improving technology and an outlook that embraces the philosophy that projects can be successful, regardless of their location.

Site specific and idiosyncratic solutions are critical to our approach, and skills that have been honed over years of producing exciting and contemporary architectural solutions, are evidenced in our extensive portfolio and large client base. The team at Starkey Architects comprising architects, technicians and interior designers, guarantee an exceptional service in a wide range of project types from simple Residential Refurbishments to Executive Hotels.

Starkey Architects About Us

Jerome Oliver Starkey

As an architect that is concerned with both the built environment and the philosophical nuances of the world in which we exist, design emphasis revolves around both the aesthetic of the product, and the effect of that aesthetic. Extensive experience in designing and detailing upmarket executive homes has allowed architectural skills to be honed in a way that produces great quality within budget.
